Battery Point involves 100 acres located along Old Salem Road and has 4500 linear feet of water frontage along Battery Creek. Further, it is located 3.5 miles from downtown Beaufort and 1 mile from the intersection of Highway 170 and Highway 21.

This neighborhood allows the use of the property's water front by the entire community which it is to include rather than restrict the water access solely to the 15 percent of water front lots. In order to not only accommodate, but enhance the use of the water front, this property is developed in a manner which is conducive to pedestrian circulation and community interaction among its owners.

Battery Point was developed as a Neo-traditional Neighborhood. Where appropriate, service alleys are introduced to provide access to the homes for the owners and their services, leaving the roadways less congested and more friendly to the pedestrian.

A green space flanking each roadway buffers 3'-0" sidewalks and homes, which are built close to the roadway right of way. There is a natural bottleneck for circulation which is created by an existing fresh water pond/wetlands area on one side, and the marshes of Battery Creek on the other. The wetlands area, which by law must be preserved, is surrounded by beautiful hardwoods and sits upon a high plateau on the property.

Pedestrian and vehicular circulation park around the wetlands to the water front along Battery Creek. The cross section of this avenue consist of a sidewalk, parallel parking, and a one way traffic lane; all on both sides of a 10' planted center median. Flanking this avenue is smaller lots (5000 square feet) with service alleys behind them, providing a higher density at the center of the community.

A row of Palmetto trees down the central median with a corridor of Sycamore down each side existing pond and wetlands (approximately 1200' linear length) is the focus of this park. The development of this natural feature, which reaches deep into the interior of the property, enhances the pedestrian circulation throughout the neighborhood, to the avenue, and so to the waterfront. The eastern edge of this park borders the major entry drive on to the site while the northern edge of this park borders the area designated to be zoned multi-family (GR) within Battery Point.

This multi family property will be directly across from existing multi-family along Old Salem Road. The remaining borders of this park which are surrounded by single-family lots will be accessed by pedestrian alleysto the Wetland Preserve Area is a Recreation Area that includes an adult and children size swimming pool, tennis courts and children's playground.

With these amenities, there is no doubt that Battery Point is a neighborhood that all of these features combine to create a dominant public realm for the neighborhoods inhabitants. The Wetlands Park described above combines with three other designated green spaces for a total of 17.5 % of this one hundred acre site.

Adding in public thoroughfares (roads, vehicular alleys, and pedestrian alleys) Battery Point takes great advantage of the site's natural characteristics in order to
enhance the personal interaction of the community's inhabitants. It encourages pleasant and free movement of the pedestrian throughout it's confines.
